New Work for Haute Photographie, Rotterdam

I’m excited to be showing these 5 new Limited Editions for the first time at Haute Photographie in Rotterdam February 9-12, 2023.

The event is set up like a group museum exhibition, rather than a typical art fair. It will feature works by grand masters from the history of photography, as well as the youngest and most exciting young talents working with the medium today. 

These works are an expansion of my series “There’s Nothing Here, Except Everything,” and reflect my interest in the quest for desire and fulfillment in a rapidly changing and increasingly fast moving world.

I will be personally attending the event on Saturday and Sunday.

The works contrast vignettes of various landscapes, with references to grafitti, symbolizing urban life, and our desire to make our “mark” on the world. In the works, I pay close attention to personifying the landscape as a companion and a sage, as much as portraying a physical space to inhabit. The titles and basic concepts are taken poems I’ve written on the subject. I plan to release a book of the poems with the artwork in later 2023.

Each begins with a landscape photograph I took in my travels, as well as images of graffiti and urban scapes. While imagining myself standing in the original landscape, I paint intuitive shapes on paper, and collage them together, before digitally outlining them and cropping in the additional photographs. I enhance the images with drawings and phrases from my poems.
